General questions

Know the history.  Then experience it.

How historically accurate are the programs?

Documented facts are distinguished from disputed accounts and legends.  When the historical record cannot answer a question, we say so.

Where are the tours and presentations held?

The tours and presentations are generally in the Charlottesville, VA area, Staunton, VA, Culpeper, VA and the Shenandoah Valley.  Each event page provides specific meeting places, details of the tour or presentation or accessibility information and booking details.

Are these ghost tours?

Not generally.  Our tours and presentations are narrative driven historical experiences. Some programs explore cemetery history or ghost lore but the emphasis remains on documented people, places, and the stories and spirits attached to them.

Do I need a reservation?

Our presentations  and driving tours are the fixed events — held on specific dates, at specific locations, built around a single story we've researched in depth. Because each one is tied to a set date and specific places, a reservation is required, so I'd encourage you to grab your seat as soon as one catches your eye rather than wait.

Walking tours work differently. These are scheduled around you — whether you're coming solo or bringing a group, just reach out and we'll find a date and time that fits your calendar. I'll handle the route, the research, and the storytelling; all you need to bring is your curiosity.

Either way, you're not planning the history — I've already done that work. You're just choosing when you'd like to step into it.

ARE THESE haunted houses with
jump scares?

No. These are atmospheric, narrative-driven presentations— lantern light and true stories, not actors leaping out of the dark. The intensity is emotional, not startling.

How long are these tours?

These are typically 60-90 minute walking tours.

How far will we walk?

These tours are about 1- 1.5 miles and sometimes does involve walking up and down hills.

are the walking tours accessible/

ARE THESE appropriate for children?

Given the emotionally intense subject matter — including execution and persecution — these presentations are best suited for older children (8-12), teens and adults. If you're considering it for a younger guest, please reach out first so we can help you decide.

What if the weather turns?

The walking tours are held despite weather, unless of lightening. If you have specific weather concerns ahead of the date, contact us directly and we'll let you know what to expect.

We do our best to make our routes accessible but each tour has varying levels of accessibility so please contact us to discuss your specific needs.

This tour starts in Winchester  and then moves on Culpeper (about 1.5 hours). From there we will travel to Charlottesville (about 1 hour) and then on to Staunton (about 30 minutes) .
